Claire Janisch

Claire Janisch is a graduate of and co-trainer for the international 2-year Biomimicry Professional Program and currently heads up biomimicrySA. She is also a co-creator of the Genius Lab inspiring innovation and future thinking for organisations and individuals (young and old). She finds inspiration and innovative solutions to human challenges by emulating organisms and ecosystems that fit in on this beautiful planet in well-adapted life-enhancing ways. As a biomimicry professional she spends her time exploring nature’s technological miracles in diverse ecosystems and shares this new way of viewing and valuing nature through expeditions and workshops – teaching & training professionals, students and scholars. She also dives deeper into research for companies and organisations – translating nature’s innovation and sustainability principles for the design of new products, processes & systems.

Bios    means life                     Mimicry    means imitate

Biomimicry is the practice of learning from and then emulating nature’s genius to solve human challenges and create more sustainable designs. Whatever the design challenge, the odds are high that one or more of the world’s 10 million creatures has not only faced the same challenge, but has evolved effective strategies to solve it. Nature can provide us with innovative and progressive solutions to the design, engineering and other challenges that we now face: energy, food production, climate control, benign chemistry, transportation, packaging, and more. The vision is to create products, processes, organizations, and policies, new ways of living that are well-adapted to life on earth. Presentations include a combination of inspiring background and practical case studies related to a specific field of interest or an overview of the opportunities that biomimicry offers for sustainability / innovation.
