Anne Hirsch

(Af)fluent in both Afrikaans and English, Anne Hirsch was born and raised in the beautiful city of Bloemfontein (well it will be once they finish building it). She graduated from the University of Stellenbosch with a degree in Drama and went on to avoid doing a real job, by earning an Honours and Masters Degree from the University of Cape Town in Theatre and Performance with a focus on comedy.

 

She has  performed and co-written 3 successful one woman shows and won SABC’s ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ Season 2 in 2009. She also forms part of Theatresports, South Africa’s longest running improvisation troupe.

 

The Anne Hirsch Show is South Africa’s first (s)talk show hosted by none other than the*#ROFLMBOFOMF hilarious, Anne. She has interviewed over 40 of South Africa’s top celebrities, from Helen Zille to Kenny Kunene. The online comedy show released weekly, has enjoyed 3 seasons, garnered over half a million views and boasts over 7000 YouTube subscribers, making her one of the top Youtubers in the country. The show sets a new benchmark in South African online media production in terms of technical quality and content.

 

The Anne Hirsch Radio Show Season 1, a version of the online show, was aired on JacarandaFM, East Coast Radio and OFM and was nominated for an MTN Radio Award for Best Night Time show in 2013. Anne also hosts the weekly Youtube show;  FOBLO (Fear Of Being Left Out) written and directed by Oliver Hermanus.

 

Anne has established herself as one of our top comedians and MC’s with her own special brand of humour and charm and has MC’d some of the country’s biggest events including  the prestigious YOU Spectacular Awards in 2014.

 

In 2013 she was crowned one of Glamour Magazine’s Women of the Year – Next Big Thing and one of Cosmopolitan’s Awesome Women. As a comedy writer, Anne contributes to various publications and in 2014 she won a  SAFTA’s for Best Comedy Writing for ZANEWS.

 

Oh, and did we mention Angelina Jolie is her best friend?
