Aggrey Lonake

Widely recognized as South Africa's premier mimic, Aggrey Lonake’s impersonations of a wide spectrum of SA public figures have become legendary. Spiced with his own brand of delightful satire, his subjects include Zuma, Mandela, De Klerk, Tutu, Mbeki, Malema and many others. In addition to his local entourage, he delivers a host of international characters with astounding accuracy too.

Born in 1959 in the Free State, Aggrey enjoyed a varied professional career, ranging from nursing clerk to hairdresser, before joining the Bop Arts Council as an actor in ‘92. He launched his acclaimed one man show “Global Report” at the ‘93 National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, before travelling the United States as a life skills trainer and winning the 1994 AT&T Outstanding Youth Worker of the Year Award. TV appearances have been numerous (People of the South, Good Morning South Africa, It’s a Funny Country) but more recently Aggrey has become the primary voice artist for the pioneering and hugely popular online show, “ZA news”. Whether it’s the rambling diplomacy of Thabo or the smooth sooth-saying of JZ, Aggrey brings more than half of the show’s characters to life with his virtuoso brilliance. From Madiba's birthday to Mbeki’s inauguration, Microsoft to Mercedes Benz, and NUM to NEDCO, his skills as a performer and MC consistently leave audiences delighted, proving Aggrey Lonake to be an outstanding and remarkable South African entertainer.
