Rob Van Vuuren
Rob van Vuuren does a whole lot of different things. He is a theatre and film actor, stand-up comedian, playwright, television personality, director, producer, motivational speaker and master of ceremonies. Oh yes and he also got taught how to do a standing back flip by an aging Russian Olympic gymnastics coach in preparation for his role as Vince in the film ‘Footskating 101'.
He also co-wrote, produced and starred (as Twakkie) in "The Most Amazing Show" for Sabc2. The Most Amazing Show has toured nationally and internationally in every conceivable caravan known to mankind and has acquired a freaky kind of cult status that has people calling each other ‘guy' in strange accents far and wide.
His one man comedy show "Rob Van Vuuren is Ron van Wuren" got nominated that year for the best one person show at the SA Comedy Awards. It didn't win, but it's still bladdy funny.
He did win a Nando's Stand-up Comedy award at the Gtown in 2008 by doing stand-up in his spare time whilst trying to cure himself of his addiction to the National Arts Festival by producing 13 productions at the event. He performed in 3 of these productions and directed the other ten. He has the scars to prove it.
Rob was also given the unique honor to perform for Madiba and his guests at his 90th Birthday bash in his home town of Qunu.
Rob then went on to be crowned champion of the fifth season of Strictly Come Dancing in South Africa. He does a mean Tango.
Rob played the part of the Devil in the hit BBC series ‘The Devils Whore'. A lot of latex was used.
He has still not won an award for acting yet but he has got to do lots of death scenes in B-grade American, Dutch and German action movies. He has died in scores of different gory ways for the sake of entertainment... Which if you think about it, is much cooler than an award.
